Long Odds.

They say I don't have a chance,
So why even bother?
To die a thousand days for just one glance,
To see where life has brought her,

This would be small sacrifice,
The depths of her unknown,
The distance likely my demise,
It burns within my bones.

Grown from a touch that I can't fight,
There is no give in me,
My inner man raging with light,
The struggle to look and see,

To start the journey that doesn't end,
To lay bare the heart that cannot mend,
To make the try with confidence of failure,
To shake the hand, knowing it's a traitor,
To hurt and hobble against the grind,
To fully accept the ties that bind,
To love and be loved in return,
To accept the gift you didn't earn,

The odds are long and full of deception.

I hope that you will be my first and only exception.
